Week 5 & fingerloop braiding

NU FUNKY FIBRE

The blue painted fingernails, belong to the lovely new Funky Fibre member, Erva. Below she’s learning to crochet, for the first time.

Welcome, Erva, & keep practicing holding the yarn for crocheting & not as knitting!

FINGERLOOP BRAIDING

Kaiya showed us an old, (but new to us), craft called Fingerloop braiding.

She used garden string, any strong yarn will do, wrap 5 loops around a solid base, have 3 loops on 3 fingers of one hand, & 2 loops on two fingers of the other hand.

After slipping loops between fingers, a plaited fabric is made.

Of course, Kaiya made it look easy, but I suppose with practice (& You Tube), great things can be achieved.

Such as this ‘split’ braid.

SASQUATCH BOOTS

image

Kaiya’s an avid camper, and as not to mess up the inside of the tent, the family wear these warm & cosy boots.

image

The whole of the boot, is made with natural yarn, with acrylic ‘eye lash’ yarn to give it some fun.  It’s knitted in mainly garter stitch (knit all rows), then stocking stitch, (knit 1 row, purl 1 row), for the upper foot.

To finish, she sews a seam up the centre back.  These boots are nice ‘n’ sturday & would be great to polish the wooden floors with, whilst wearing them!

SOCKS

Kat’s making ANOTHER pair of socks!

She’s using that gorgeous self-patterning yarn, which she gets from Drops with green yarn, I think is from Lidl.  Not sure if this is the 1st or 2nd foot.  I’ll find out more, on Wednesday, as she’s running her knitting club @ the Cooper Locke Gallery/Cafe, Hither Green Lane, Hither Green, 3pm.

HOT CHILE

Claire’s away in Chile, but she’s been updating her blog page.  She uploaded this glorious picture, below:

Unfortunately, Mary didn’t make it tonight, so with only 10 minutes before Club ended, we got out the rose wine, & toasted Mrs G, & off home we went.   (Besides, I wanted to get home pretty sharpish, as the new series of The Hotel Inspector starts @ 9pm!

So, until the next time, Happy Easter.

Keep crafting, keep creating.

Week 3 for the Funky Fibres Pt2

NO DROPPED STITCHES HERE!

Patricia, was back with us, this week, and she said that she’d pulled back her drop stitch scarf, due to some mistakes.  I took a look at it, and it looked fine to me.     Keep going Patricia, it’s looking great, especially, with the glorious varigated yarn, you’re using.

MARY, QUEEN OF FLOWERS!

Mary remebered her knitting, this week, and is working on a beautiful flower, from the book: 100 Flowers to Knit & Crochet.  I must try something from this book, the patterns look fun to do.

She’s increased to 10 stitches, by kniting in the front & back of the 1st stitch, then on the next row, knitting stitches together.  The end result is she made 2 petals!

Mary was so excited, she couldn’t believe she actually did it!  Keep going, Mary, I/we want to see how your garden grows!

Home 4 Christmas

Just back home 2 spend the holiday with my sis & her children.  Got up v early 2 get 2 train stn, most trains were severely delayed, a majority were cancelled, so I took the nxt avail train home.

A good thing, is that all restrictions were lifted, which meant that I could sit in 1st Class!  Needless 2 say, they were not best pleased!  Especially as I told ‘Mr Bespoke Suited n Booted’, that I only paid £5 4 my tkt, compared 2 his £175 1st class tkt!  I deliberately sat next 2 him, @ the forward facing table, took out my netbook, hooked up 2 the free WiFi, kicked off my wellies, selected ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ by the Prodigy on my iPod, kicked bak, n tuned out!

My nephew was 21 on Monday, but he didn’t want 2 cut his cake ’till I got there! Check out the old Nokia phones!

My sis’s Christmas tree.  No dropping needles 4 her!

Just seen the time!  I’m off 2 bed.

Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hanukaa (sp) Happy Eid

So until the next time.
