Lee Green Open Studios 2012

Our aim is to increase awareness of the arts and artists in the immediate locality around where many of us live, and thus encourage interest and participation in the arts.

Lee Green Open Studios is an annual event which takes place over two weekends in November based around the SE12 area. Local residents and visitors to the area have free access, over the two weekends, to a broad range of arts, most of which are available to purchase.  This year we have printmakers, photographers, painters, sculptors, ceramicists, textile artists, jewellers and craftspeople.

The 2012 Lee Green Open Studios will take place on the weekends of November 10th and 11th; 17th and 18th.  Our opening times are 12-7pm on Saturdays and 12-6pm on Sundays.

We do hope to see you there.

Week 5 & fingerloop braiding

NU FUNKY FIBRE

The blue painted fingernails, belong to the lovely new Funky Fibre member, Erva. Below she’s learning to crochet, for the first time.

Welcome, Erva, & keep practicing holding the yarn for crocheting & not as knitting!

FINGERLOOP BRAIDING

Kaiya showed us an old, (but new to us), craft called Fingerloop braiding.

She used garden string, any strong yarn will do, wrap 5 loops around a solid base, have 3 loops on 3 fingers of one hand, & 2 loops on two fingers of the other hand.

After slipping loops between fingers, a plaited fabric is made.

image

Of course, Kaiya made it look easy, but I suppose with practice (& You Tube), great things can be achieved.

Such as this ‘split’ braid.

Take a look @ the link for the You Tube tutorial:      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

SASQUATCH BOOTS

image

Kaiya’s an avid camper, and as not to mess up the inside of the tent, the family wear these warm & cosy boots.

image

The whole of the boot, is made with natural yarn, with acrylic ‘eye lash’ yarn to give it some fun.  It’s knitted in mainly garter stitch (knit all rows), then stocking stitch, (knit 1 row, purl 1 row), for the upper foot.

image

To finish, she sews a seam up the centre back.  These boots are nice ‘n’ sturday & would be great to polish the wooden floors with, whilst wearing them!

SOCKS

Kat’s making ANOTHER pair of socks!

She’s using that gorgeous self-patterning yarn, which she gets from Drops with green yarn, I think is from Lidl.  Not sure if this is the 1st or 2nd foot.  I’ll find out more, on Wednesday, as she’s running her knitting club @ the Cooper Locke Gallery/Cafe, Hither Green Lane, Hither Green, 3pm.

HOT CHILE

Claire’s away in Chile, but she’s been updating her blog page.  She uploaded this glorious picture, below:

Street art, Santiago

Unfortunately, Mary didn’t make it tonight, so with only 10 minutes before Club ended, we got out the rose wine, & toasted Mrs G, & off home we went.   (Besides, I wanted to get home pretty sharpish, as the new series of The Hotel Inspector starts @ 9pm!

So, until the next time, Happy Easter.

Keep crafting, keep creating.

Week 2 @ Lee Green Knitting & Crochet Club

2nite was the 2nd week of the knitting/crochet/craft club @ the Lee Gate Community Cente.

Mary splashed out on 2 bottles of rose wine, & we happily polished of one of the bottles, in no time at all!

image

Mary forgot her knitting, but she learnt how to crochet, instead.  We were talking so much, that se only managed a foundation row & single crochet!  Hang tight, gir, we’ll get back on track, next week!

Kat, minus her hand knitted shrug, was knitting socks.  She was using a fabulous self-striped yarn, which, when knitted, looked like she did an intricate Fairisle pattern design!  (Note 2 self-GET THAT YARN)!

Claire brought her peg loom weaving again, and boy, it’s grown since last week!     It’s a gift for a friend, and I KNOW the receiver will be beyond pleased to receive them!  It’s looking great, C, especially with the ‘eyelash’ yarn, it adds a great definition to it.

Kat’s doing a knitting group on Thursdays from 6pm – 8pm at the Cooper Locke Gallery/Cafe on Hither Green Lane, Hither Green.  Work committments permitting, we hope to get there this week.

Also, Kat gave us the juice about the Hither Green Week 21st – 29th May  http://www.tumblr.com/edit/4166807785?redirect_to=%2Fdraftsheck out the link for more info, as i’m sure you’ll want to get involved: http://www.learnerdrivers.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2531

I’ll post more info about the Hither Green Week & The Cooper Locke Gallery Cafe, soon.

So, until the next time, keep crafting, keep creating.

New knitting group

Hi all,

Every Monday from 6.30pm – 8.30pm.  Here are the details:

image

Mondays.  6.30pm – 8.30pm.  Lee Green Community Centre,             3 Leegate, London SE12 8SS.  (Opposite Sainsbury’s)  An optional donation would be very much appreciated, which will go towards refreshments & the running of the centre, etc.

image

I’ll bring some yarns & needles for those who don’t have any, but feel free to bring your own.  I will be on hand to assist, especially beginners, but i’m sure, experienced knitters will help others on the night.

For the future, I was thinking of doing a mass knit-a-throw-a-thon, knitted squares for a patchwork throw, then it could be sold/auctioned to raise funds for the Community Centre/Charity etc.  All ideas welcome!

There’s a Wednesday afternoon knitting group, run by Julia Gemie, @ the community centre 2pm – 4pm.  She’d love to see you.

If you can’t attend any of those days, I go to a fabulous group called Pins N Needles @ The Fox & Firkin pub, Lewisham High St, SE13 – (opposite the Ladywell Leisure Centre).  We meet every Wednesday from 8pm.

So until the next time, keep crafting, keep creating.

Peace & Love
